Your talent is like a flame, you can use it to destroy lives, create new things or keep others warm. Till you know why you are gifted, however, you will be all over the place, confused and often depressed to say the least. You see, what you do with your talent doesn’t matter as much … Continue reading What’s your purpose as a creative?
There is nothing more frustrating than praying for months, years or even days for one thing in hope, only to be left feeling crushed and without an answer. I recall a moment when I attended a three day church program, to fast and pray about my business amongst other prayers. I was trusting God for … Continue reading Hope Deferred: when nothing seems to be working
So there was this one time I sat in church totally bored and distracted. I was going through a trying period of a sort and felt disconnected from the sermon. My mind was racing and in search of answers. My work, relationships and life in totality just seemed a mess, and I wondered if I … Continue reading What is your biggest proof of God’s existence?
I check my social media accounts everyday and many people have a wise saying or two, some, if you read deeply between the lines are birthed out of hate, sadness or a difficult moment. Some also in trying to get their daily fix of joy, post an image and hope the comments and likes can liven them up. We all know or can relate because we have either lived through this or know a friend who has.
I have been thinking about the subject of fear lately and how this affects the life of a creative entrepreneur. We all have our fears, but many times never sit down to analyze and battle these fears. We just accept them as ours and allow them to determine the course of our lives. In this … Continue reading The four mountains of entrepreneurial fears
I don’t remember the exact date when I became ‘born again’. I know a lot of people celebrate that as an anniversary but sadly I can’t recall. What I remember is how I got deeper into His word and that is my testimony.
Recently a preacher mentioned something about Hannah that struck me. In 1 Samuel 1, we see Hannah who desperately wanted a child and had to endure the taunting of Peninah. What a thorn in the flesh! That must have been a painful thing to go through. But Hannah fueled all her pain into seeking God and praying. Maybe we need something as a reminder to push us deeper into prayer. To travail like Hannah in tough times while enduring the pain. Just like everyone else, I have had my share of difficult times for a few years. But I believe God ordains such times to draw us closer to Him and build up our faith. Those experiences were my Peninah and boy did it work! After my final results came in after medical school, I packed up and went straight home. No chilling. No photoshoots. NOTHING!
“I realized God wanted me to calm down and harness all that he has gifted me with . Yo! I went from no jobs to busy. I went from no income to income. It didn’t have to be much immediately and I am grateful charlie”
“I was skeptical because all the application process was online. I had a friend who kept encouraging me to apply . The good thing is, that semester, my grades were excellent. I believe God was preparing me for the gift He had for me. “
After university, I was posted as a teacher to a remote village for national service. Teaching kids who were going through tough challenges changed my perspective and gave me purpose.
The job market was not so welcoming, either. The response was always, “We’ll call you back,” but I never got the call.
Initially, I went through a couple of hardships but through all that, I kept trusting God.
The period that ensued was one of the hardest years of my life so far. I had signed up for the God dream, which was building church and working in local communities. Yet, I felt let down by God and trapped in a life that I had not signed up for and could not even afford to escape.
I was never going to get an employment offer because my degree did not match the qualifications they required.
All through primary to JSS , I was always sacked for school fees. God showed me grace by giving me favour before my teachers and school authorities.
Where does the concept of the starving artist come from? Why do most creatives rant about not working for free? Why do most creatives give up their crafts and go look for a “real job”? How have some succeeded and built world-class empires?
I accidentally damaged my phone some time ago. It slipped out of my hands and cracked upon hitting the ground. To my dismay, it became unresponsive. The only thing I could pretty much do was receive incoming calls via an earpiece. This unfortunate incident helped me assess the use of my phone. For the past few years, WhatsApp as well as other social media platforms has become my default mode of communication; a development which I believe appeals to other phone users as social media platforms provides easy and convenient ways for correspondence. How was I going to survive with a damaged phone whose only use was to receive calls?
Have you ever wondered why people visit zoos? Think about it. Is it just to admire works of nature or to marvel at God’s handiwork? Do we go to the zoo just to hear lions roar and to see monkeys swing from tree to tree? Yes! That’s exactly what we do…but why? There is the simple reason. Every creature, object, mountain or work of nature designed by God serves a purpose. And you know, we like these creatures who are below us are exactly the same—we were designed for a purpose.
At 21, you have no clue what your future could possibly hold. You don’t have the slightest idea that you will discover your gifts and purpose in life through the most bizarre circumstances seven years later. Dela, you might have never thought that you will inspire and influence people through your works as an artist, designer and an advocate for purpose. Perhaps, you didn’t think that someday you will be sharing your faith in God with the world and the many miracles He’s done in your life.
A couple of months back during a spontaneous worship session I wrote the words below. Through it all, the pain and hurt/ When I am low and covered in dirt/ I will sing your praise/ For I know you are with me/ With me even when I can't feel you/ With me even when I … Continue reading When darkness falls
Everybody's got their issues 'man': maybe a loved one is disrespecting them; maybe a boyfriend messed up or just got another girl pregnant; maybe they are broke and are about to be evicted or maybe, their cat just died and they can't get over the pain. People have got their issues and no matter how … Continue reading Sharing your problems
Think about it! You go to church on Sunday, go through the whole week indulging in your own secret sins and forgetting practically everything the preacher said—except the jokes; and come back the next week to listen to another sermon you will forget weeks later. Truth be told, this does happen to a lot of … Continue reading What’s the point of Christianity?
