Beyond Rubber delves deeply into the conceptual underpinnings of Dela Anyah’s practice, investigating the complex relationships between waste, capitalism, and environmental responsibility. Central to the exhibition is A Glimpse of Capitalism, a compelling installation in which Anyah repurposes discarded tomato baskets, once used for commerce, to confront the system of overproduction that defines contemporary capitalism. These neglected baskets, filled with inner tubes, create a “tubes market,” a powerful metaphor for the relentless cycle of consumption. For Anyah, vulcanizer shops—where he sources his materials—become markets where discarded objects, once deemed worthless, are reintroduced into the capital cycle, revealing the unsustainable nature of excess and waste.

In addition to A Glimpse of Capitalism, Beyond Rubber features works from Anyah’s Of Micro Plastics and Climate Change series, including the provocative What Are We Going to Do With All This Plastic? This installation highlights society's escalating dependence on plastics and their careless disposal, flooding communities and streets with environmental consequences that demand urgent attention. Anyah’s work challenges us to confront the ecological crisis that we collectively contribute to, while proposing a reconsideration of the resources we discard.

Through Beyond Rubber, Anyah encourages a radical rethinking of waste, not as an end, but as a beginning—an invitation to engage with the untapped potential inherent in discarded objects. His work serves as a call to action, urging viewers to reconsider cycles of production and consumption, and to reflect on the environmental responsibility we all share in the face of a rapidly changing world.
