On 10th Feb 2020, I wrote in my prayer journal, “Lord, help me to be your witness and to share your good news with others”.
Three days later, Pastor Ali (lead pastor of Hope City Church Accra) messaged me to ask if I would share on the Storytellers series. As I was thinking of a polite way to decline, God reminded me of what I had written in my journal. He had shown His faithfulness by answering my prayer.
I do not have one dramatic story of God’s faithfulness in my life. My story is a string of many instances that God has made a way, showing again and again His faithfulness to me.
A few years ago, God blessed me with a job in a consulting firm right after I finished my master’sprogram. After 2 years of working, I was passed up for a promotion. To make matters worse, two of my peers, who had joined the company after me and who I had trained, got promoted ahead of me! Devastated, humiliated and angry, it took all my will power to go to work in the mornings. I was downhearted and it affected my work.
I cried out to God, “Lord, this is a job you blessed me with. I am trying so hard but why are my efforts not being recognized?” I prayed for another job.
God did not answer my prayer how I wanted. Instead, He asked me to trust Him and give thanks despite the circumstances. He told me to be faithful in the little things and to work like I was working for Him, and not for man. So, in spite of myself and my feelings, I thanked Him for the job daily and put in extra effort.
It was during this time that things started to change. A senior manager took me under his wing as his mentee and ensured that I did what was necessary for promotion. Months later, I got promoted.
A few months after the promotion, God answered my original prayer, and I got an amazing job offer from a company. How I even heard about the job vacancy was God ordained and getting the offer was a miracle. The position I interviewed for asked for 10 years of experience, when I had 5 years. An ideal candidate would be proficient in French, where my French was basic. I could not have been more grateful to Him.
Currently, I am in a season of waiting for answered prayer. And, it is the past instances of God’s faithfulness that are keeping me strong in the faith that He has done it before and will do it again. He is the same God back then and He’s the same God right now.
I am reminded of this verse in the Bible: “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” (Romans 8:32 NLT) That is the kind of God that we serve, and I would like to encourage everyone that God has not changed. He is faithful.
