Talk and Exhibition at Rice University: Transforming Tire Waste
At Rice University, I had the opportunity to present Transforming Tire Waste: Histories, Processes, and Innovative Forms, an exploration of my artistic practice, which transforms discarded inner tubes into meaningful sculptures. As part of the "Energy, Waste, and the Environment in West Africa" conference, I shared insights into the environmental impact of waste, my creative process, and how my work addresses climate change through repurposing tire waste. The exhibition featured pieces that illustrate the potential of discarded materials to tell powerful stories of rebirth and identity. Watch the full talk here.
AboutDela Anyah is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, photography, and installation. He transforms discarded materials—such as tires, rubber inner tubes, bicycle rims, and license plates—commonly found in vulcanizer and vehicle repair spaces, into works that tell stories of their former lives, histories, and speculative futures. By highlighting our interconnectedness with climate and machines, Anyah challenges traditional notions of value and beauty, revealing the potential for renewal in overlooked objects.
